One more: six Spaniards to the FIFA World Player Nominees
We have re-done, the champions are still swelling their roster of successes and this time saw six of them yesterday as their names joined the list of nominees to the FIFA World Player: Casillas, Cesc, Iniesta, Torres, Villa and Xavi are part from the list of the 23 selected to receive the coveted prize.
With this award, FIFA recognizes the best footballers of the year in a vote by coaches and captains of national teams.
Besides them, the league BBVA brings more candidates: Messi and Eto'o (FC Barcelona), Aguero (Atletico Madrid) and Rud Van Nistelrooy.
For clubs, Chelsea is the largest number of players is in the privileged list with five names: Terry, Ballack, Deco, Lampard and Drogba. Barca brings four and Real Madrid two.
The Premier League is a national competition with more players nominated, a total of 10, as well as the two Spaniards (Torres and Cesc) and Chelsea also added Steven Gerrard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Adebayor. Behind them lies the Spanish league with eight players and thirdly the Italian league with five players: Buffon, Kaká and Ibrahimovic. The list of 23 the complete Frank Ribery (Bayern Munich) and Andrei Arshavin (Zenit St. Petersburg).
In early December will be made public the names of the three players voted and the awards (for best players) will be known on January 12 2009 at the gala to be held at the Zurich Opera.
